I guess I took for granted all of the academic opportunities I have had. I also underestimated the education i have received thus far. I started school back up with University of Phoenix because it fit my schedule and because they were five week classes, only one night a week. We're down to crunch time in the last week of my first class. We have individual assignments with a final powerpoint and research paper - but we also have a team project with a research paper and powerpoint. I got A's on my individual and currently have an even 100 average in the class. After reading my team members papers this evening, i'm seriously concerned for the outcome of my final grade. People are really lacking paper writing skills these days. And maybe I was just blessed with a smart teacher (thanks, mom) who made sure i knew how to write papers in MLA and APA formats BEFORE i left for college. So that's my night - encouraging them to do more research, make their paragraphs longer than 3 sentences (this is college, people) and to properly cite their information. One guy didn't even USE any references, he just free wrote his paper. One girl had never used a computer before this class and started out using Vista (Scary), and the other girl STILL hasn't sent me her portion of the paper and it's been almost 2 weeks since everyone else has been done with theirs. Oye. All I know is i'm not writing an 8 page paper by myself. Luckily my professor recognizes the problems in our group and has reassured me that I should be okay gradewise. I know it's just a Gen Ed class to familiarize people with the way the school works, but if you can't write a decent paper in a Gen class...how are you going to survive in the normal classes? Okay, I'm done venting for now. |
